Singapore Public Holidays 2026 and 2027: Every Date, and What It Means for Visitors

Singapore's public holiday calendar is a useful travel planning tool for two opposite reasons. Some holidays are the best possible time to be in the city, because the festivals themselves are the attraction. Others are the worst, because the whole region travels at once and prices follow.

Here is the full gazetted list for both years, and what each one actually feels like on the ground.

What is left of 2026

The earlier 2026 holidays have passed: New Year's Day, Chinese New Year on 17-18 February, Hari Raya Puasa on 21 March, Good Friday on 3 April, Labour Day on 1 May, Hari Raya Haji on 27 May, Vesak Day on 31 May and National Day on 9 August, observed on Monday 10 August.

Two things worth knowing about the remainder. Deepavali turns Little India into the most photographed street in the country, with an arch of lights along Serangoon Road for weeks beforehand. And Christmas in Singapore is a genuine spectacle, with Orchard Road running a light-up that has been an annual institution since the 1980s.

The 2027 long weekends

Five holidays hand you a genuine three-day weekend without touching your leave:

• New Year's Day, Friday 1 January
• Chinese New Year, Saturday to Monday 6-8 February
• Good Friday, Friday 26 March
• Hari Raya Haji, Monday 17 May
• National Day, Monday 9 August

Add one day of leave around Vesak Day on Thursday 20 May or Deepavali on Thursday 28 October and each becomes a four-day break. This is exactly what everyone in Singapore does, which is why flights and regional hotels in those windows are expensive.

What actually closes

Less than visitors expect. Singapore's malls, restaurants, cinemas, attractions and public transport run through nearly every public holiday, usually on a Sunday schedule. Banks, government offices and clinics close.

The exception is Chinese New Year. On the first two days, a large share of independent shops, hawker stalls and family restaurants close, and some stay shut for the best part of a week. Chinatown is spectacular in the run-up and unusually quiet on the day itself. Hotel restaurants, big chains and tourist attractions stay open throughout, so nobody goes hungry, but the hawker centres you planned around may be dark. Check before you go.

Which holidays are worth travelling for

Chinese New Year (February 2027) is the biggest cultural moment of the year: Chinatown's light-up, the River Hongbao festival by the bay, and lion dances in shopping malls. Book early, accept that some food options close, and go for the atmosphere.

Hari Raya Puasa (March 2027) transforms Geylang Serai and Kampong Glam with a night bazaar that runs for weeks beforehand, one of the best street-food experiences of the year.

Deepavali (October 2027) lights Little India from end to end, with a festival village and some of the best sweets in the city.

National Day (9 August) brings the National Day Parade, a full military and civil display over Marina Bay with fighter jets, fireworks and a rehearsal on preceding weekends that is nearly as good as the day itself. Vantage points along the bay fill early.

Singapore Grand Prix week, 9 to 11 October 2026

For a certain kind of traveller, the biggest date in the Singapore calendar is not gazetted at all. Formula 1 comes to Marina Bay on 9-11 October 2026, and the city runs at a completely different tempo: the circuit closes off the civic district, hotel rates triple, and every rooftop in town is booked out.
