How Singapore hotels are actually rated
Two independent systems are worth knowing before you book.
MICHELIN Keys are the hotel equivalent of MICHELIN Stars, awarded for the quality of the stay rather than the restaurant. One Key means a special stay, Two Keys an exceptional one, Three Keys an extraordinary one. Singapore appeared in the selection for the first time in 2025 with seven hotels.
The World's 50 Best Hotels is a voted list from the same organisation behind the World's 50 Best Restaurants. In the 2025 edition, exactly one Singapore hotel made it, and it made it near the top.
Local star ratings, by contrast, are largely self-declared marketing. Almost every hotel in the centre calls itself five-star.
1. Raffles Hotel Singapore
Raffles is the one Singapore hotel that both systems agree on: the country's only Three MICHELIN Key property, and fifth on the World's 50 Best Hotels 2025 list. The 1887 building reopened after a long restoration as an all-suite hotel with the verandas, courtyards and butler service intact, and with the Long Bar still pouring the Singapore Sling that was invented on the premises.
Guest reviews cluster around the same theme: you are paying for a piece of history that still functions as a working luxury hotel, not a museum. If you want a single night of proper occasion during your trip, this is the room to spend it in. Book the courtyard-facing suites for quiet; the Beach Road side catches more street noise.
2. Capella Singapore, Sentosa
Capella sits on 30 acres of Sentosa rainforest in restored colonial buildings joined to a curving Norman Foster wing. It is the address for guests who want the city an hour behind them: cascading pools, peacocks on the lawn, private villas with plunge pools, and the discretion that made it the choice for high-profile state visits.
Reviewers describe service that anticipates rather than reacts. The trade-off is distance, you are on the island, so plan taxis for Marina Bay dinners.
3. Marina Bay Sands
Not a MICHELIN Key hotel, and it does not need to be. Marina Bay Sands is the most recognisable building in Singapore and the only way to swim in the SkyPark infinity pool, which is reserved for hotel guests. Rooms are business-hotel comfortable rather than intimate, the scale is enormous, and the queues at check-in are real.
You book it for one reason: waking up 55 floors above the bay, then walking to Gardens by the Bay, the ArtScience Museum, the shops and CÉ LA VI without ever leaving the complex. During Grand Prix week, its bay-facing rooms overlook the circuit itself.

Just off Orchard Boulevard, the Four Seasons is the quiet, grown-up choice: a discreet lobby, a serious art collection, tennis courts, and the sort of consistent service that gets repeat business from people who travel constantly. It is a two-minute walk to Orchard Road shopping and a short ride to the CBD.
Choose it when the trip is half business and half family, and you want neither a party hotel nor an island resort.
5. Mandarin Oriental Singapore
The fan-shaped tower gives an unusually high share of rooms a genuine Marina Bay panorama, and the hotel sits inside the ring of streets that becomes the Grand Prix circuit. Guests single out the club lounge, the pool deck view and the walkable position between Suntec, Esplanade and the bay promenade.
6. PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering

Two recent arrivals completing the Key list. Artyzen Singapore on Cuscaden Road is a design-led urban resort a short walk from Orchard, with an unusual amount of greenery for its footprint. Raffles Sentosa Singapore is the all-villa island sibling of the Beach Road original, each villa with its own pool, aimed squarely at families and privacy-seekers.

Booking for Grand Prix week
The Singapore Grand Prix runs 9-11 October 2026, and it changes the hotel market for the entire week. Rooms overlooking the Marina Bay circuit are the first to disappear, minimum stays of three or four nights become standard, and rates at bay-facing hotels can multiply. Two practical rules: book before the schedule chatter starts in the new year, and check the cancellation terms rather than the headline rate, because event bookings are often non-refundable.
